Last week I was presented with an illustration of this in the shape of one of our customers that has recently piloted the use of Agile in their office in the States.

Back in June 2011 I presented on Future Technology Trends at the Iris NFP conference and one of the major themes was the emergence of cloud, which I predicted would shape the future for many organisations. Since that date I have been astonished at the speed at which cloud technologies have bridged the chasm from early adopters to mainstream.
After the promise in the government’s IT strategy of using the skills and adaptability of SMEs to support the move to Agile, I am particularly dismayed to find that the initial focus for this type engagement will be through the Consultancy One framework.
Reading Alex’s recent post regarding the Olympics’ website brought to mind a similar situation faced by the Guardian in 2008, and a simple but effective lesson learned.
After spending 10 years explaining to organisations that Agile is not simply about engineering techniques and iterations I was delighted to meet with a customer earlier this week who talked of the success he’d had in using incremental delivery to manage strategy and demand within his business unit.
Following the recommendations of the Institute for Government’s System Error report, the Cabinet Office stipulated in its ICT Strategy for Government that all government bodies implement a minimum of one project during 2011/12 using an Agile methodology.

The 2011 Agile Awards were a resounding success last night and huge credit and thanks has to go to Julie Voice for her excellent organisation. The ceremony, in keeping with Agile, has grown up this year and provided a perfect showcase for the Agile community.

Last week I wrote a small blog post again pointing out the need for governance of Agile projects. In response Joseph Motha commented that my post would be more interesting if I explained how governance could be achieved. So here goes...
