I picked up this article - Are you making this mistake at the end of your meetings? - on LinkedIn, via a connection of mine over at Ceridian drawing my attention to it. I have read it a couple of times and it is certainly worth a read.

Earlier this week I read with interest an article via the Flickboard newsfeed on my phone. It highlighted the difficulties that a number of Cloud providers find themselves in. In particular the providers who scaled up quickly with offers of free services and have not successfully converted enough custom to the chargeable model. The conclusion of the article was that this market is about to experience a significant phase of consolidation.

My so far unsuccessful foray into technology for my children

Before you start reading please be forewarned that this is not as exciting as some of the previous blogs on this site (in particular the piece about submariners and torpedoes), nor does it offer leading edge insight into anything in particular. Therefore read on at your own risk!

IndigoBlue were very pleased to host another successful breakfast meeting at the Royal Automobile Club in Pall Mall. Organisations currently using a range of membership systems were represented by senior team members from IT and Finance.

It was striking to note the number of membership organisations actively reviewing the current technology deployed to support membership and CRM, with a range of different approaches including:

Quite often I hear clients referring to themselves along the lines of "we are not a call centre" yet at the same time the telephone remains a vital way by which clients acquire and then use their services. Toby Roberts the IT Director at The British Horse Society brought this very interesting article to my attention, it is worth a read and full of interesting and reusable information.

The British Horse Society has launched a brand new digital destination, via its new website developed on Sitecore via digital partners e3.  The site overhaul is part of an on-going technology modernisation programme for the British Horse Society, architected and programme managed by IndigoBlue that will improve the overall membership experience and provide a strong platform for future developments. Further benefits planned for 2013 include the development of a fully personalised membership area and closer integration with the new CRM and membership system developed on Silverbear's Microsoft Dynamics CRM platform.

I recently came across an incident where a UPS (uninterruptable power supply) caught fire owing to a fault with the battery, the supplier replaced it without cost and outside of warranty all to aware of the implications of this piece of kit which is intended to support business continuity in fact bringing most of the service down!

Yesterday I read with interest an article on the BobsGuide Website that reflected on the increasing reliance of businesses on IT systems, not being matched by a thorough enough IT audit, to check that the systems are being optimised. Of the companies surveyed by Proviti a significant proportion had no process in place by which to conduct an IT Audit and those that do are not effective at the next steps required to redress problems and close gaps.

I have recently been struck by how frequently poor supplier and / or client management is a major contributing factor to under performance of IT systems. This often manifests itself in incomplete implementations or a steady decline in the use of what the software was intended for - or both. Then the problem is exacerbated by the emergence of shadow systems often horribly constructed in Excel duplicating effort, introducing risk and wasting resources.

Back in February I posted that I was making use of Smartsheet to support a major change programme, in particular between suppliers, whilst at the same time the newly recruited IT Director was championing the internal use of Basecamp internally.

I promised to provide regular updates, so here is the first one all be it a little later than planned!
