Developed by Mary Poppendieck and Tom Poppendieck in their classic text on the subject, “Implementing Lean Software Development”, the 7 principles of Lean software development were modified from the original principles developed by Toyota in the post-war period. These 7 principles have formed the basis for all Lean methodologies, and are essential for a project to be carried out in a Lean manner.

Obviously, simply listing these principles by title doesn’t give us the whole story, so we’ll be expanding on each over the course of the next couple of weeks, to give you more of an understanding of how these principles can be applied in a real project situation.
Today's highly competitive and rapidly changing markets that see the rise and fall of the likes of Nokia and MySpace places business imperatives on companies. In particular, companies need to be innovative, introducing new products, updating others to react to changes in the market (or predicting or even creating these market changes).
