Black Swan

01 APR 2011 | Posted in agile approach, disaster recovery, risk reduction | Author Jason Smith

The idea of the black swan is a fascinating one. I am not, in this case, referring to the film of the same name about a slightly dippy ballerina who wishes to improve her dancing through copious quantities of drugs, sex and fantasy, although it might make for a more entertaining post. I am referring to the concept first defined by Nassim Nicholas Taleb.

Intercontinental Collaboration Challenge!

Isn't it great the way agile techniques allow you to discuss issues with your team mates sitting next to you in the same war room. It's not so great when the war room spans several continents. It’s even harder when your team members speak several different mother tongues and they are still trying to get a basic grasp of agile concepts let alone project details.

Backlog or Yule Log?

24 NOV 2010 | Posted in agile approach, agile governance, scrum | Author Rob Smith | 3 Comments

I've just left a meeting in which the programme manager asked a senior business manager, "are those your backlog projects?".  "No" was the response, "they're the projects we'll run next year".  Much hilarity ensued but after the common vernacular from Scrum was explained the Business Manager pointed out "Backlog sounds negative, it implies that work should have been done but hasn't been completed".

I raised this in the IndigoBlue office to be told that others have encountered this issue. Perhaps it's something we should address. Is it time for a new name?

Enabling Business Change

  • Agile is the future for development and management projects
  • Agile is adaptable and robust in all situations
  • Agile minimises your risk

We believe that all organisations can benefit from Agile, but there is no single Agile approach that is applicable to all organisations. We therefore help organisations to improve their project management processes within the constraints of the prevailing context.
