Paving the way for SMEs

14 DEC 2011 | Author Rob Smith

After the promise in the government’s IT strategy of using the skills and adaptability of SMEs to support the move to Agile, I am particularly dismayed to find that the initial focus for this type engagement will be through the Consultancy One framework.

Now forgive me for my pedantry but given that the potential size of change management consultancy engagements within this framework is up to £2million, this implies a requirement for organisations to have at least a £10million turnover.  Furthermore, to obtain a maximum score within Lot 1 requires the supplier to have 310 consultants.  That doesn’t sound too encouraging for most of the SMEs I’m familiar with.

I, like others, look forward to the introduction of a specific Agile framework in which specialist SMEs can engage with Government and we can start to make a real difference.
