Agile Business Change Blog Thoughts on Agile Strategic Business Change and Agile Delivery

Microsoft's recently announced Q2 2012 service release of Dynamics CRM 2012 will have some very interesting features, including mobile access, multi-browser support and industry templates.

I thought it would be useful to share a brief overview:

  • Mobile - Microsoft will provide hosting for mobile and tablet based access, for Apple, BlackBerry, Android and Windows Mobile 7 devices. All controlled and configured within CRM.
  • Multi-browser - FireFox, Chrome and Safari will be supported as well as IE. This will allow users to access CRM from any of these browsers (full admin and configuration will still require IE). This is excellent news for testing as it will enable Selenium IDE to be used to record and replay tests - Selenium IDE works in FireFox (although for more serious testing Selenium WebDriver is needed).
  • Social - providing the ability to do things such as 'like', filter on a tag, look at all posts on my accounts, and to follow individual contacts, accounts and organisations.
  • SQL Server 2012 - for even better performance, particularly for high-end customers.
  • Reporting - PowerPivot and PowerView reports to provide dynamic reports that can be saved to PowerPoint for review presentations.
  • Industry templates - including NFP and wealth management, hopefully providing even more features than the previous release … and hopefully for UK (and others) rather than just US centric features.

2012 update delayed until the Autumn, possibly due to difficulties in developing apps and fallback of using HTML5 - see MSDynamicsWorld post.

Would Like, Will Not get?

I recently had a debate with Simon Annicchiarico of Appius regarding the meaning of the W in MoSCoW, and whilst it had its origins in my petty pedantry, there was an important issue to be considered.
