We have recently changed our website privacy policy to comply with the EU Directive that will be in force in the UK from 26th May.
However, a significant proportion of organisations haven't made the necessary updates including many Government websites according to the BBC.
It will be interesting to see how the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) handles this issue, particularly as they have already extended the deadline from when the directive became law a year ago.
I recently had a debate with Simon Annicchiarico of Appius regarding the meaning of the W in MoSCoW, and whilst it had its origins in my petty pedantry, there was an important issue to be considered.

Urban Cookie Directive
I guess the answer lies in who will actually enforce the law.
There is no active arm of government or militia bent on finding the cookie criminals. The ico takes reports and complaints, and passes cases to the CPS. The evil act itself could even be made at a page, not a site level, making it even harder to track.
If the company has a 'uk' website but is located outside the EU, or it is hosted overseas as a '.com', does this still apply? Would we see blocking of 'illegal' sites from the UK?
The Internet no longer runs with the same arbitrary physical boundaries of state and nation.
