Agile Governance

The increasing prevalence of Agile is testimony to its widespread success.  The iterative, incremental approach increases collaboration, focuses on quality, and provides the opportunity for early return on investment.

However, governance within “standard” Agile is limited, and organisations are left to grapple with key questions such as: what will be delivered and when; how will risk be managed; how are external dependencies managed; and how much analysis and documentation is “sufficient”?

Adapt 2.0

IndigoBlue’s Adapt 2.0 is the pioneering governance framework for Agile, incremental delivery.  Having been adopted on a number of the largest Agile project in the world, the framework is proven to provide the control required to assure successful delivery in the most exacting circumstances.

Adapt 2.0 is used in conjunction with other Agile processes. In essence, the addition of Adapt 2.0 makes Agile a more complete process. Importantly it does this by harnessing and enhancing the principles of Agile, rather than diluting them.The benefits of the Adapt 2.0 framework can be described in a number of ways:

  • It provides an approach to Agile projects which enables them to be well-governed
  • It provides an approach that covers the end-to-end lifecycle rather than focusing on development
  • It provides an approach that is applicable to wider programmes and portfolios as against single projects
  • It provides an approach that is more widely applicable than just software development
  • It provides a means of combining Agile and waterfall projects within the same governance process

Framework Contents

The framework consists of process guidelines, templates, tools, and supplementary training material.  The core elements are described below:

The Project Initiation Framework defines the process and techniques for setting up a project for success, along with templates and a tool for managing scope. It addresses the issues associated with balancing the need to start development early and the need for a sufficient level of confidence in the project baseline.

The Development and Delivery Framework defines the process and techniques for successful incremental development and delivery, along with templates for tracking and reporting.

The Project Assurance Framework provides guidelines and templates for auditing the process and includes Sprint and Project Diagnostics.
